Welcome to Susan Blair Kid Lit

I am a “words-person.” I read and write because I am fascinated by language–its power, its beauty, its magic. When I come across a well-crafted piece of prose or poetry, I get a thrill. And when I find the right words for what I am writing, I get a deep sense of satisfaction.

I want to awaken others to the importance of language. Language affects our emotions, inspires us to action, comforts us in our struggles. Language entertains, educates, enlightens.

We connect with others through communication; we communicate through language. Using language effectively is a skill we can develop intentionally. I’d love to see each of us work at this and “kick it up a notch.”

Reading extensively is one way to develop language skill. Through reading, we develop literacy. A high level of literacy increases our success as individuals and as a community. It also boosts self-esteem.

I aspire to promote poetry literacy, starting with children at a young age. When learning is fun, we learn better. And the sooner, the better. If I can hook kids on poetry early on, I might seed a love for poetry that will stay with them into later years. I want kids–of all ages!–to be excited about (not intimidated by) poetry.

Writing, reading, enjoying fresh and powerful language feed my soul. I hope that my books will entertain, educate and inspire both kids and adults to enjoy this feast.
